Dear Nicola

Thank you for attending Excel Intermediate course. I hope you enjoyed the course and it was beneficial for you!!

Yes you can always create a new template without using the existing one.

The only advantage of creating a template from the existing one such as Invoice template in the New… dialog box is that most of the formatting and layout is done for you already and all you have to do is to customize it according to your preference.

But sometimes the default format that a template uses may be so different that you may decide to start the template from scratch.

It is very easy to create a template from scratch. You simply type in all the information that will be common to all the workbooks that will be based upon this template.

After you have created the file that you wish to save as template:

Step 1: Click on File > Save As…
Step 2: In the Save As dialog box in the Save As Type choose Template.
Please notice that the in the Save In box the location will automatically change to Templates folder.
Step 3: You can either save it there or change the location to where it is easily accessible.
Step 4: Click Save Button.

I hope this has helped in answering your question.

If this posting has helped in answering your query then I would request you to mark the posting as Resolved . Excel tip:

Generate randon numbers

Some types of analysis require you to use randomly generated numbers. You can also use randomly generated numbers to quickly populate an Excel spreadsheet. There's an easy function you can use to do this automatically. Here are a few of the ways you can use it:

Type =RAND() in a cell to generate a number between 0 and 1.
Type =RAND()*100 to generate a number between 1 and 100.
