RE: Email

Hi Sonia,

Thanks for attending our Dreamweaver 8 Introduction course. I hope it was a successful day for you.

What happens when a user clicks on a "mailto:" link depends on what settings they have in their own personal browser (ie. Internet Options). Usually, this is set to be Outlook by default for Internet Explorer and most other browsers. It's up to the user to change which program they prefer to use to send e-mails when they click "mailto" links.

To see the options available on your computer, go to Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs tab.

According to this dialogue box, it's a Windows setting, not a browser setting. So once you change it in this dialogue box, all your applications should open "mailto:" links in the e-mail application you select here.

If you would like more information or an expansion, please reply to this post. Otherwise, please mark the post as resolved.

Good luck with your web development and we look forward to answering more of your questions soon.

Regards, Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

JumpMenu in new window

When inserting a jumpmenu to a page, the only option available for 'open in' is usually 'main window'. There would be other options available if the page was a frameset.

To change the jumpmenu to open in a new window, change the target parameter of the selectbox in your code to 'window.open()'.

eg.
<select name="menu1" onChange="MM_jumpMenu('window.open()',this,0)">
