can you scan from a camera

Not really sure what you mean here.

Scanning usually involves taking a scan of a bit of paper (A4 size for example or book). There are flatbed scanners and hand-held scanners. It's similar to a photocopier except once you have the scan you can save it as an image file. Once you have the image file, you can import it into Word or send it in an e-mail.

A (digital) camera is different in that the image file is already created. You just copy the image file from the camera to the computer (via cable or from the memory card). You can then insert the image file into Word or e-mail etc.

Film cameras are different again. You would need to get the film developed. Most film developers and camera houses can put the images straight onto a CD for you, and you can then copy the images onto your computer. Or, you can use a Scanner to scan in the actual physical prints into the computer. Digital is better quality, as you may pick up dust on the scanner or marks on the physical prints.
