I have several spreeadhseets that are linked together - I want to change the name of the spreadsheets however when i do I lose the links between the various spreadsheets - is it possible to change the name of linked spreadhseets without losing the links and having to manually update the links??

Also, it is possible to copy a folder of spreadsheets to another folder, rename the spreadsheets in the new folder and automatically update the new links (I have tried and have the same issue, when I change the name of the spreadsheets the links still point to the original folder and file name)

Thanks
NICK

Hello Nick,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft training course with BEST Training.
Thank you for your question regarding changing spreadsheet names and links without losing the location.

When you rename a speadsheet without excel knowing about it (ie. outside of excel, then the links that are pointing to it will not update automatically. You will need to use the Links editer (EDIT > LINKS).

To automatically update a link, make sure that both workbooks are OPEN in Excel when you rename the sheet or workbook. A suggestion is that you SAVE AS, instead of renaming the file.

When Excel has both sheets open, then it can track the changes automatically, and make the relevant changes.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.
Regards,

Richard

Excel tip:

No Zeros

Want all the zeros in your worksheet to appear blank? Choose Tools/Options, Click on the View Tab, Deselect the Zero Values Option, Click OK.
Easy wasn't it? But be aware that these cells are not actually blank, they still contain the value zero. This is important because certain functions (ie AVERAGE) make a distinction between blank cells and those with a zero value.
