Hi Phil,
I hope you enjoyed your Excel training. Thank you for your question.
Page numbers in Excel are inserted in the Header and Footer. You need to go to File>>Page Setup, or View>>Header and Footer. In the dialogue box click on the third tab at the top labelled “Header/Footer”. If you want page numbers at the top of each page, click on Custom Header, and if you want them at the bottom, click on Custom Footer.
This will bring up another dialogue box with a number of options for information that can be inserted automatically onto every page of the worksheet.
Click your cursor in the area you want the information to appear (left, centre or right). Then choose the information you want to appear in your header or footer. For page numbers choose the second picture in (with a hash mark on it). Click on this and the text “&[Page]” will appear in your header or footer section. This means that Excel will automatically insert the page number on every sheet, in the position you have chosen.
There are a number of other options that can be automatically added to the header or footer – date and time, file path, file name and tab name, and you can also insert a picture.
Once you have decided on what you want to appear, the first button on the left then allows you to choose the font type and size of your header and footer. Highlight the information you have inserted, and then click on the “A”. You will get a font formatting dialogue box here to make your choices.
Please also note that the Header and Footer information you choose will only show when you are in Print Preview, so do not expect to see it when you go back to normal view. To see how the information will appear when you print, go to File>>Print Preview.
I hope this answers your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.
If you require further assistance, please reply to this post.
Have a great day.
Regards,
Nicole.
