Can you use a DVD (as opposed to a Audio CD) in subsitituon of video for accomopanying PowerPoints
Second Question,. I f you linked CD Audio into the master slide, would it be available throughout the slide show - How do you do this..?
RE: Powerpoint
Hi Paul, Thank you for your post, in answer to the first part of your question;
1. It is possible to take some sound and/or video clips from a DVD and turn them into a format which could be used in powerpoint.
This is possible but is not as easy as you would think it should be …The main difficulty is because although a DVD contains both video and sound files, they are encoded and packed into two folders named video_ts and audio_ts. DVD players and recorders are able to read this format but not video editing software; crazy as it seems you have to transfer this to an analogue format which can then be read by PowerPoint, not something to be attempted by the faint hearted.
This can be accomplished by using a program called Squared 5 (which is Freeware) and another (not freeware) called Pinnacle Studio Solution. This option is potentially the best solution as Squared 5 software will read the video from the DVD and display it in a window and allow you to set in and out points. If the DVD has been split into sections it will generally only allow you to view one section at a time. Once you have set in and out points you can then select from a number of export and convert formats. However you will still need to bring the exported clips which are usually exported in mpeg4 format into Pinnacle and which can then converted to windows media clips.
2. It is not usual to link your audio to the master slide, however to use music from a CD follow these steps:
Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.
On the Slides tab in normal view, click the slide you want the music to start playing on. On the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, and then click Play CD Audio Track. Under Clip selection, in the Start at track and End at track boxes, set the starting and ending track number. (To play only one track or part of a track, put the same number in both boxes.) In the time boxes, set the starting time for the starting track and ending time for the ending track. By default, the start time is zero and the end time is the total number of minutes for the ending track. If you want the music to repeat, select the Loop until stopped check box.
Click OK, and when prompted, do one of the following:
To play the music automatically when you go to the slide, click Automatically. To play the music when you click the CD icon , click When Clicked.
Note; If you choose to start the music with a mouse click, the CD icon will appear on your slide even if you've selected the Hide sound icon during slide show check box.
To adjust settings for when to stop the music: on the slide, click the CD icon , right-click, and on the shortcut menu, click Custom Animation. In the Custom Animation task pane, right-click the arrow on the selected item in the Custom Animation list, and then click Effect Options. On the Effect tab, under Stop playing, do one of the following: To stop the music on mouse-click of the slide, select On click (the default). To stop the music after this slide, click After current slide.
To keep the music playing for several slides, click After, and then set the total number of slides the music should play for.
I hope this has helped, if so, please click the Resolved link, best regards Pete
