I want to be able to change the dates start and finish to the english setting of 01/04/08 as currently it is set on the american way of 04/01/08 Is there a way of changing this. I have tried going onto tools, options and changing the date format there, but there does not seem to be an option to set the date to the english setting

Go to Control Panel and check the options there.

Sounds like your international settings are incorrect.

Ms project tip:

Autofit column width – Project (all versions)

a. Highlight the column or columns you wish to alter the width of.
b. Double click the dividing line between the columns. This dividing line is the break between the columns on the column headers (grey buttons showing the column letter at the top of each column). When you hover your mouse over one of these dividing lines the point will change and show an arrow pulling a line in two directions. When you have this mouse pointer you should double click to get Project to automatically set the column width to fit the contents of the column (autofit)
