How do I make a macro non-workbook specific, so that it works in any Excel file?

Hi Kathy, Thank you for your post, welcome to the forum, in answer to your question, when you are creating your macro, in the first dialog box after choosing menu command Tools>Macro>Record New Macro, in the Store macro in text box, use the drop down arrow choices and select Personal Macro Workbook. Record your macro in the normal way. Your macro will now be available to you whenever you open that PC's version of Excel.
To delete this macro you cannot use the normal method of deleting it from the Macro dialog box; The macro has been saved in a special hidden workbook, so you must first Hide the current workbook, Window>Hide, then immediatly go to Window>Unhide, you will see the Personal Macro Workbook displayed in the choices, open it and delete the Macro/s as per normal, Save the Personal Macro Workbook, and then Hide it as above, then Unhide your original Workbook, the macro will not be shown or operate. Excel tip:

Formst Excel to display leading zeroes

Select the cells that you want to have displaying leading zeroes.

From the 'Format' menu select 'Cells' (Or Right-click on the selected range and and select 'Format Cells').

In the 'Number' tab click on 'Custom' in the 'Category' window.

In the 'Type:' box enter zeroes that correspond to the size of the required number (eg 5 zeroes).

Click OK.

When you enter numbers into these cells, leading zeroes will be displayed.

eg 123 = 00123
