RE: dreamweaver

Anne,

Answer: You don't!!

I jest, because frames is now considered bad practice.

See these posts from the past where I discuss Frames:
http://www.microsofttraining.net/post-4479-frames.html
http://www.microsofttraining.net/post-1667-frames.html

These posts should give you a bit more info on how to get started building a site using frames. However, I do suggest you try to avoid them if possible. Unless you have a long, long list (like an index or table of contents) that you don't want to load onto the page each time.

In short, you have what's called a Frameset. This defines how the screen is split up. Then you load a different web page into each frame. You can turn the frame borders off to give the look/feel that there are no frames.

If you are after high Search Engine results for your web site, please note frames may cause a problem for arriving visitors from search engines, and also the way search engines index your site.

Kind regards,
Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

Testing a site

When developing a site, you have to cater to the widest possible audience allowing for users with different browsers and display settings.
Test pages to see how they look with:

- different display resolutions
- browser with graphics turned off
- many different browsers not just IE
- if possible different operating systems.
