If you base a query on a form, and you change the query why does it not reflect in the form? How can this be done?

RE: Queries and Forms updating

Dear Melissa

Thank you for attending Access Introduction course. I hope you enjoyed the course and found it useful.

You can create a query from existing tables or queries but not from Forms. You can create a form from existing tables or Queries. Please remember that Forms are just a pleasant way of viewing and entering your data. It is mainly used for Screen Input purposes.

If you create a query from a table and then decide to create a form based on that Query you will get all the records that meet the specific criteria in that query. If you, however, change the criteria in the original query and reopen the Form the No. of records will automatically be updated.

I have uploaded an Access file. Please note that I have create a Query called “more_than_$1”. Currently you’ll see 10 records in this query. I have created a Form called “more_than_$1” based on this Query and if you open the Form it will have the same no. of records. Please close the Form after viewing the results.

Please open the Query in design view and change the criteria to >2. When you run the query you’ll see only 3 records. If you open the Form you’ll see that it automatically displays 3 records as well.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

Rajeev Rawat
