Hi Jillian,

The H lookup or horizontal lookup searches for a value in the top row of a table, and then returns a value in the same column from a row you specify in the table. Use HLOOKUP when your comparison values are located in a row across the top of a table of data, and you want to look down a specified number of rows.

For example if you used

=HLOOKUP("Training",A1:D4,4) goes across the first row and looks up the word Training, and it returns the value from row 4 that's in the same column. So in effect it goes across and then down.

Hope that helps

Tracy

Excel tip:

Colouring cells containing formulas

Cells in a worksheet can contain values or they can contain formulas. You may wish to identify all the cells in your worksheet that contain formulas by colouring those cells.

Follow these steps:
1. Choose Edit > Go To menu, or press either F5 or Ctrl+G. Excel displays the Go To dialog box.
2. Click Special. Excel displays the Go To Special dialog box.
3. Select the Formulas radio button option.
4. Select OK.

At this point, every formula cell in the worksheet is selected, and those cells can be coloured formatted as desired.
