Multiple projects ?

Alex has attended:
Project Intro Intermediate course

by - delegate Alex [1 post] (2008 May 8 Thu, 16:41) replyReply

i am looking to replicate similar processes for a number of smaller but similar implementations wrapped up under the umbrella of one project and i need to have people working on more than on implementaion at the same time so i need to allocate their time to multiple projects - i am not sure how to best achieve this yet ?

Hi Alex

Thank you for your question

The first point is you state that you are working with a number of similar implementations. My first suggestion is that you create a project that models this implementation and then save it as a template. To do this click on Save As and in the file type dialog choose "Template". You can then create a series of new projects based on the template to represent the different implementations.

The next step is to create a common resource pool that will contain all the resources to be used across the implementations. To do this create a blank project and enter the resources into its resource sheet. You should then save it and call its something memorable, e'g' "resource pool".

Then ,with the resouce pool file open you can open each of your implementation project files and by clicking on tools- resource sharing- share resources, specify that the implementation files use the resource pool for their resources.

Finally, when you then open the reource pool, you will be asked if you wish to open a master file that shows all the implementation files in one GANTT chart. This can be used to allocate resources across the multiple implementations

Hope this is useful

Regards

Stephen
