Project Intro Intermediate course

Service Packs

Hi all, this is really more of a technical question than a pratical question.

While on my MS Project course - I spoke to Andrew (course tutor) about a problem I was having with my installed version on my work laptop. Basically, I could indent a task but Project would not 'outdent'. After a bit of a discussion, he stated he seemed to recall that one of the Service Packs resolved this is issue.

My IT department have found 3 service packs from the MS website but everytime they try to install one - the installation programme cancels stating it is did not find the expected programme.

Are we doing something very basically wrong? Do you know the link or service pack that would resolve this particular problem ? Or have you any idea that would allow the programme to function as intended?

Any support you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Service Packs

Hi Simon

I have come across this same thing recently with copies of Project which were bought in mainland Europe, not in UK.

It applies only to the top task in a group of subtasks and I have been unable to find a solution.

The only practical advice I can offer is to copy the subtasks, delete the summary task (this will delete the subtasks also) then paste the subtasks back in. You should then be able to outdent the top one and re-insert the summary task above it.

RE: Service Packs

Hi Simon

This problem crept into Project version 2003 and was recognised pretty quickly by Microsoft. There is a software download available which resolves the problem. Here is the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6F4762EF-49C6-421D-9DD5-39484171A237&displaylang=en

The page has good instructions on applying the download. Good luck, Simon. I hope it resolves the problem for you.

Regards from Thia
