How do you create a customised number that shows a number as a percentage and if negative appears in red.

RE: customising numbers

Hi Karen,

Thank you for your question.

For formatting a number to show both percentages as well as red negatives, you need to choose CUSTOM under format.

1. On your number, choose FORMAT CELLS > NUMBER tab > CUSTOM option (last item on the list)
2. In the box on the right hand side, type in (or just copy & paste) the following syntax: 0.00%;[Red]-0.00%
3. press OK

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Excel tip:

Recently used file list

Under the File menu, you may find a list of files at the bottom of the menu. These files represent the most recently used Excel spreadsheets. This file list provides a quick way for you to access your files.

You can disable the file list feature of Excel. This is done by

1. Choose Tools > Options menu. You will see the Options dialog box.
2. Ensure the General tab is selected.
3. Make sure the Recently Used File List check box is cleared.
4. Click on OK.
