How can you edit the Data Validation list source when you have manually typed in a list scrolling beyond the size of the input box? Using the cursor keys references cells on the worksheet!

RE: Excel - data validation source list

Dear Carl

Thank you for attending Excel, Access and Project courses. I hope you enjoyed the courses and benefited from them.

This is few of the annoying things that Excel does but there is a way around this.

The best way is to press the function key F2 on the keyboard and that activates the cursor to move within the input box. Pressing F2 deactivates it.

Another long winded option would be to type your entries in Word or Notepad separating then by commas (,) and then cut (CTRL +X) and paste (CTRL +V) them in the input box in Excel Data Validation dialog box.

I hope this answers your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

Rajeev Rawat
MOS Master Instructor 2000 and 2003

Excel tip:

Hiding Formulae in the Formula Bar

It is possible to protect the contents of a cell reference(s) from amendment by applying cell protection. The contents of the cell reference can also be stopped from displaying in the formula bar.

Step 1: Select Format > Cells > Protection.

Step 2: Tick Hidden option. Ensure Locked is ticked

Step 3: Select Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet

(Ensure "Protect worksheet and contents of locked cells" is ticked)
