Hi Claire

The ROUND function does not remove the zeros (0) so 34,249 for example can only be rounded to 34,000.

What you are asking is for the number to lose a certain number of zeros, in this case 3

THis means you need to create a formula that takes the number in a cell (eg D3 and divide it by 1,000) as seen below

Amount ¦ Amount (In 1,000s)

34,349 ¦ =D3/1000

and format the formula cell to 0 decimal places or ROUND it to a whole number

Hope this helps

Carlos

Excel tip:

Quickly hide and unhide rows and columns

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+9 to hide selected rows and Ctrl+0 to hide selected columns. The good thing about this shortcut is that you do not need to select entire rows or columns. For example, select B3:D3 then press Ctrl+0 to hide columns B to D.

Ctrl+Shift+9 unhides rows and Ctrl+Shift+0 unhides columns.
