Report text boxes

Is there a way to resize/expand/reduce text boxes in reports so that nearby text boxes automatically reshape (so that text does not overlap in the print view)?

I work with letters (in reports) that need to be updated every few months, and which vary according to certain conditions. As a result, the report has a number of text boxes overlapping, making it difficult to resize a text box that needs editing, without manually changing other text boxes, or checking that other versions of the letter derived from the same report do not have overlapping text in the print view.

Hi Shamini,

Thank you for your post, welcome to the forum.

In answer to your question, you can set the properties of the text box (Control) to Grow and/or Shrink in relation to the amount of text being entered. the Grow and Shrink is only available as an adjustment to the height of the text box not the width.

On your report, change to Design view, right click the control you wish to work on and from the Properties list choose Format, in the list of options find Can Grow and Can Shrink, change these both to Yes and close your Properties list, change back to Print View and observe the field, where text is long Access has wrapped it within the width of the field and changed the height to fit, moving all other records proportionally.

I hope that has helped, regards Pete

Access tip:

Splittng a database

Split your database into two (at least).

Keep all of your code, forms, reports, etc. in one 'code' database and all of your tables in another 'data' database which is then linked to the 'code' database.

This makes modifications, updates and back-ups that much easier and allows you to work on a new version of your 'code' database without affecting existing users. It also makes it easier should you wish to convert a single user databases into a multi-user networked version.
