I have noticed that sometimes a word document will open as a final draft and other times it will open with final showing mark up. Is there a way of making word open a document always showing final version without any mark up?

The only thing I can think of is maybe it depends on what was showing (final or final showing markup) when the document was saved and closed last.

You could test this by changing the document to show final showing markup then save and close and see how it looks when you next open it. Then try changing to final and save and close then open the document again - see if there is any difference depending on what is showing when the document is saved.
