Lucy has attended:
Dreamweaver 8 Intermediate course

by - delegate Lucy [5 posts] (2008 Jul 2 Wed, 16:28) replyReply

Hi,

I've tried using the library asset but this message is shown:

'to use the assets panel you must define a site'

How do I get past this? I do know how to define a site but am reluctant to do this as I thought the site I'm working on was already defined!

The site was recently moved from the hard drive to a shared folder, could this have anything to do with it?

Any help much appreciated,

Thanks,

Lucy

Hi Lucy,

Perhaps define another site, ensuring it's pointing to the new shared folder. Dreamweaver has most likely detected that the hard drive folder no longer exists, and therefore is showing an error with the site definition.

Create a new site first, and once you have it working (and assets/library items), and are happy with it, remove the old site.

If you have any problems, let me know and I'll assist further.

Regards, Rich

Thanks for your reply,

I'm still a bit confused...If I remove the old site, won't it delete my site?

Thanks,

Lucy

Hi Lucy,

No, you won't lose the files (html, images). A 'site' in dreamweaver is just information about where you store your local files, and the FTP details of your hosting server.

If you remove a site, you can easily create it again by pointing the site to the correct local folder (or in your case, shared folder), and entering the correct username/password for your FTP. If you don't use FTP, you'll need whatever other credintials required to post to your web server.

It is a bit confusing, but I hope the above clears this up?

Regards, Rich

Yep, I think I get it now!

Will give it a go today,

Thanks again,

Lucy

Dreamweaver tip:

JumpMenu in new window

When inserting a jumpmenu to a page, the only option available for 'open in' is usually 'main window'. There would be other options available if the page was a frameset.

To change the jumpmenu to open in a new window, change the target parameter of the selectbox in your code to 'window.open()'.

eg.
<select name="menu1" onChange="MM_jumpMenu('window.open()',this,0)">
