How exactly does baseline dates work and how do i insert them on to a current project plan?

Hi Sudeep

the baseline is saved by going to Tools > Tracking > Save Baseline. Project copies the start, finish, duration, work and cost information for each of tasks into corresponding baseline fields. This is usually done once the project is ready to start but before any progress has been recorded. As your project progresses you can compare the original baseline plan with your current plan to spot variances.
The quickest way to see the baseline alongside your live plan is to switch to the Tracking Gantt chart (View > Tracking Gantt). The coloured bars represent your live project, the charcoal grey lines represent the baseline.

Alternatively in the regular Gantt Chart view (View > Gantt chart) you can get project to draw the baseline alongside your tasks. From the Format menu choose Gant Chart Wizard, click Next and choose baseline. Click Finish, Format it then exit. To remove the baseline from the Gantt chart re-run the wizard choosing standard as the formatting option.
