Malcolm,

To link a task from one project to a task in another project do the following.

Open both project plans. Go to the "Window" menu and select "New Window" - highlight both of the plans you have open and select the "Gantt Chart" View option. you will now have a new project plan with both of your projects within it showing as "Embedded Objects" - you can now link a task in one plan to a task in the other. Typically I would suggest linking from a Milestone in one project to either a task or milestone in the other.

Once you have created the links you can close the project plan - don't save it but DO save the changes to the 2 embedded projects.

You will now have a link between them - you can check this using the Tools > Links Between Projects command.

One last word of advice - try to avoid over-complicating things, I always reccomend what I call "One Way Traffic" you only really want links going one way otherwise you might introduce "Circular Reference Dependencies".

I hope this helps

Dominic
