Postcodes on my database are in the format SW18 2PU. I receive excel spreadsheets with postcoded data from other organisations that I need to match to my own data. Postcodes arrive in various formats e.g. SW182PU, SW18-2PU, SW18_2PU. How can I change them into the format I need? Bear in mind the postcodes could be of different lengths e.g. SW8 2LL.

Hi Christina

Thanks for your question.

I think you would need to set a custom format for this. There are various symbols that you can use as part of a custom format (as you will see if you go to Format - Cells - Number and select Custom from the Categories list).

I would suggest going to Excel Help and looking up custom number formatting to find out what all the various symbols stand for then create you own custom number format for the postcodes.

I hope you enjoyed your training today and have a good weekend.
Amanda
