How do you stop the figures being entered as decimal figures

I don't know what button I have pressed but when I enter a whole number in the cell, it converts it to a decimal number! How do I stop it from doing this?

RE: How do you stop the figures being entered as decimal figures

Hi Joy

thanks for your question. It sounds like the number formatting for the cell has been changed to show decimal places. Try this:

right click on the cell in question then from the menu that appears choose format cells then click the number tab and finally choose a number format from the list. For example you might choose general or number with 0 decimal places.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: How do you stop the figures being entered as decimal figures

Hi Andrew

I tried this yesterday and when I do change it to the number format, it converts all my numbers to 0!

My boss has opened the file from his PC and it's fine.

I am going crazy as I don't know what else it could be!

I also have at the bottom of my screen, where the NUM lock toolbar is, a FIX icon? What is that?

Hi Joy

I can understand how you feel, i have a little something you could try, select the cells then go to the edit menu, and choose clear then click formats, this may do the trick!!!

RE: How do you stop the figures being entered as decimal figures

Mark, Thanks for this.
Before I received your email, I was calling some of my excel buddies and one of them suggested the Tools/Options/Edit and there is a section on decimal places and I had to convert that back down to 0!
I don't see how I managed to do that using the shortcut key!
All is good now though - thank you!

Joy
