Is it possible to have bits of excel spreadsheets showing in powerpoint that have live updating links from other spreadsheets? Will it ruin the file size of my powerpoint presentation, or just cause it to run slower?

Hi Sarah

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

To create a link to a spreadsheet in PowerPoint:

1. Open the Excel file that contains the spreadsheet you wish to link to.

2. Select and copy the data you wish to put into the presentation.

3. In PowerPoint, go to Edit - Paste Special, select Paste Link and click OK.

4. You will see the copied data in the presentation, and this is linked to the Excel file where the data has come from.

You will be given the option to update the link every time you open the PowerPoint presentation.

I think that by pasting something as a link the file size of the presentation will be smaller than if you embed the Excel data anyway (i.e. pasting without linking).

The link below has some quite useful tips regarding making PowerPoint files smaller if you are interested. Number 5 in the list talks about linking image files, but the same could be said for linking Excel files as well.
