how do I edit a v:lookup to enter something in a cell as opposed to the formula so the cell acts like a search box?

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.
The VLOOKUP function has 4 parts - for the first part of the function (the lookup value), you can refer to a cell (e.g. A3) and then type into that cell what is it that you would like Excel to look for in the first/left most column of the table array (second part of the function). Then you can use cell A3 like a search box.
