"Month" Function

by - Vicki [guest] (2007 Feb 22 Thu, 12:42) replyReply

I am trying to set up a spreadsheet and am using the Month function as part of a calculation to enter a 'period' number in a cell based on the date in another cell. Because I am working to a financial year (April to March) it takes it across a 'year' which results in a minus number for Jan, Feb and March in the next year. How can I 'tell' Excel that 2008 dates are next year?

Hello Vicky

A possible solution is to introduce a new column that uses an IF function to adjust for your financial year being April to March.

Suggested formula
=IF(E4<=0,E4+12,E4) where E4 is the cell showing -2 for January

Hope this helps

Excel tip:

View a unique list

You have a column with hundreds of entries, and you need to see what unique items are entered in it. Select any cell in that column, hold down Alt and press the down arrow: Excel produces an alphabetically-sorted list of unique entries in that column.
