Vlookup

Excel VBA Intro Intermediate course

Vlookup

In Vlookup the first column data must be sorted. Is there a way of doing similar thing with data that's not. (To find the exacty values or strings in the first column)
Also it would be very helpful to be able to make the vlookup search with multiple arguments (not just the first column) to define the row to pick from

Thanks in advance,

Juho

RE: vlookup

Hi Juho

Thanks for your question

The lookup column in the lookup table need only be sorted if you are looking for the closest matching value. It is not necessary if you are seeking an exact match.(This is defined by the 4th argument).
Vlookup will only look in the first column. It might however be possible to nest another Vlookup within the first one, looking at another range that contains the second column youa re interested in.
Finally, if all else fails it might be possible to write some code that will carrry out the required operations. To pursue this further, it would be helpful if you could email an example workbook to me and I will investigate further.

The email address is infoATmicrosofttraining.net
