How do I link to a non-Access table (database is called Solomon - is there any quick way to link to it) ?

The Solomon Database uses SQL so follows the ODBC protocols.

To link to an ODBC database:

Select File, Get External Data, Link Tables

In the Link dialog box Select ODBC Databases in Files Of Type

Select the required Database and click OK

In the Link Tables dialog box, select the required tables and click OK

The tables appear in your database as linked (With the linked symbol net to each
