Can you view data from different tables in one database, rather than separate tables? This may be something to do with the table relation?

In addition, what other advanced features will help in a finance department where Excel performs the primary resource to formulate information? Are these taught in the Intermediate or Advances phase? How will using these in Access benefit against Excel?

Thank you for attending Access Introduction course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.

You are right. This is something to do with Relationships between tables. We cover this in detail in Intermediate level.

If you know how the relationship work in Access you can very easily insert something known as Subdatasheets. If you are not familiar with relationships between the tables then I recommend that you enrol in one of our Intermediate courses.

It is important to understand that Access is not there for lots of calculations and functions!! If you feel that you need to do lots of calculations then my recommendation will be to use Excel. If you have got most of teh data in Access and you wish to transfer it in Excel so that you can perform the financial functions then please follow these steps:

1. Open the Table or Query in Datasheet view
2. Choose Tools > Office Links > MS Excel

This will extract your table into Excel and you can perform all your excel functions.

How To Find All Overdue Accounts?

To find overdue accounts create a filter that compares today's date with the Invoice Date in the table. To do this:

1. Open the Query in Design View
2. Select the field for the filter and in the criteria row enter:

<Date()

This filter returns records where the Invoice Date is before today's date.

This filter can be manipulated if, for instance, Invoices are due 15 days after the Invoice Date. For this the filter would be:

<Date()-15

This filter returns records where the Invoice Date is 15 days before today's date.
