Open the database. Go to tools, security, set database password.

Thanks. When carrying out the above, I get an error message: "You must have the Database open for exclusive use to set or remove the password", with an explanation following on how to do this ("to open the database exclusively, close it, then reopen by clicking on the MS Office Button and using the Open Command. in the Open dialog box, click the arrow next to the Open Button, then select Open Exclusive").
However, there doesn't appear to be an "Open Dialogue" box shown when the instructions are followed. Are you able to advise on this, or is it a local IT issue?

Are you attempting to open it from windows explorer? Try opening the access database from within access itself by closing the database, clicking File, Open and locating the file. The arrow should be next to the open button. I have tried it on mine and it does work and I believe it should work on yours too, so i have attached a screen shot so you can see where I mean. Please can you check and see if this is what you were doing or if it still doesnt work?
