RE: Host Server

Hi Eimear,

Thanks for your question. I hope you enjoyed the Dreamweaver training.

You'll need to get the details from your hosting provider.

Usually, this is FTP details (File Transfer Protocol). And will involve:
Host:
Host/Remote Directory:
Username:
Password:

Enter the settings they give you into Remote Settings for your Site in Dreamweaver, and do a Test connect.

Host/Remote Directory is not required, but often hosting providers will take you to your home account when you FTP in, and your web site may be stored in a folder within that home account, eg. wwwroot, public_html or www

If this is the case for you, and to ensure Dreamweaver synchronises and uploads it's files to the right directory, you should put the name of this folder in the Host/Remote directory. Ask your hosting provider for more details on this.

If this answer resolves your query, please mark the question as 'resolved' (see below). Otherwise, please post a follow-up response to this post, and I will assist you further.

Regards, Rich

Dreamweaver (adobe) tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
