Tracking

Hi - another question!

We have Timesheets in our company to see in the end of the year how we estimated a project and how long it actually took etc.

My colleagues filling out the timesheets what they have done this week + "h still to go" and "estimated completion date".

But I just can't input it correctly.
I can't say Person A needed 53.5 hours for this task and is finished 16/03/09.
The date always jumps to the 01/06/09 and when I change the date the hours go down to the 18.5h.

How can I change that??

Thanks a lot

Stefanie

RE: Tracking

Hi Stefanie

Thanks for your question.

MS Project treats Work (53.5 hours) and Duration (finish by 16/03/09) separately so you will struggle to enter them at the same time.

In the Resource Usage view you could record actual hours completed (right click on the time-phased sheet and choose to display Actuals). Alternatively you could double click on a task then in the Tracking tab you can record actual hours and remaining hours.

Once the Actuals are recorded you can then adjust the entries in the Work row for the task to reflect the amount the user forecast is still left to do.

If you just need to move the remaining planned work in the schedule you might find it easier to switch to Gantt view then click on the uncomplete part of the task bar and drag it to the date when work will resume place.

I hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Ms project tip:

Giving Someone a Gantt Chart Snapshot

To pass on a picture of a Gantt chart segment, choose the appropriate view, select the rows to be included, then click on the camera icon and select For Screen. The graphics image can be pasted into another document. (See Paste icon forn Project 2010)
