Recurring Tasks

Why does MS Project not allow you to put recurring tasks into the different summary tasks

RE: Recurring Tasks

Hi Bevis

Thank you for your question. Recurring tasks are in effect summary tasks already. They roll up a collection of sub-tasks that follow the recurrance pattern you set by using Insert > Recurring task. This means that you can treat them as a regular task - and indent them to form part of other summaries. Be careful though of trying to turn a recurring task into a summary for a group of other tasks as well. If you indent a task below a recurring task MS Project will assume it is part of the recurrence. Since recurring tasks are usually rolled up your new task is no longer visible.

Try to keep your recurring tasks toward the bottom of your plan and treat them as regular tasks. Create separate summaries to group your project into phases.

I hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Ms project tip:

Compare Work and Duration

Duration is the timescale within which a task is done; Work is the specific time element used. For example, 3 days work in a duration of 2 weeks. To compare, add the Work field into the Entry table by right clicking a column heading to Add Field.
