Hi James

Thank you for your question. It's hard to rule out project areas but I would say that MS Project works best when used for sequences of activities that lead to one or more deliverables, and have a clear start and finish.

Tasks that represent day to day work, ongoing activities with no defined start finish dates are better suited to applications like MS Outlook.

Hi Andrew

I started using Project today and I'm stumped slighly when assign days to tasks then linking them. What I attempted is below:

test 1 2 days Mon 18/05/09 Wed 20/05/09
test 2 2 days Wed 20/05/09 Thu 21/05/09
test 3 2 days Thu 21/05/09 Mon 25/05/09

Not sure why its saying test 3 will start on Thursday?

Dont worry Andrew - Worked it out - I had assigned 7 hours as a day but had an 8 hour working day.

Ms project tip:

Formatting Bar Text

To display notes or resource initials on the Gantt chart bars, choose Format, Bar Styles and the Text tab. Select the position you want to show the text i.e. Top or Inside etc, then choose the field name you are looking for from the drop down arrow. Type the first letter of the name to get quickly to the top of the letter range. Click OK.
