Problem with Save command

Hi - whenever I save changes to an htm document, using either the Save command in the File menu, or CTRL + S, Dreamweaver opens the Save As Template dialog box.

The only way I've found to just save changes to an htm file is to preview it on the browser.

Have you any idea why this would be happening?

RE: Problem with Save command

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your question. I hope you enjoyed the Dreamweaver training.

This often happens to me when the file is Read Only. In the Site Panel (usually on the right), does the file have a padlock symbol next to it? If so, it means the file is set to read only. Right click the file and select 'turn off read only' to turn this off, or do it in Windows Explorer (right click file -> properties).

If this answer resolves your query, please mark the question as 'resolved' (see below). Otherwise, please post a follow-up response to this post, and I will assist you further.

Regards, Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
