Problem uploading unmodified files

Problem uploading unmodified files

(in version MX).

The problem is that I can download site and reload unmodified files but cannot upload modified files.

The error message says
"an FTP error occurred.
Cannot put index.htm.
Dreamweaver could not connect to the server.
Please check your network connection and try again".

As I said I can upload unmodified files so I don't think the network connection is a problem, it only affects modified files.

RE: Problem uploading unmodified files

Hello Jo

Thank you for your question and apologies for the delay in response.

This sounds like a problem with your hosting provider, not necessarily with DreamWeaver itself; so we would suggest contacting them for technical support.

We can offer the following suggestions, to try and establish if this is an issue being caused by DreamWeaver or the server:

1. Try creating a new file and uploading to see if this works.
2. Check to see if there are any read-only settings on the files, both local and remote.
3. Try a different FTP program, such as Filezilla to make sure the problem isn't with DreamWeaver.

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: Problem uploading unmodified files

How do I check if the files are read-only on the local & remonte sites?

RE: Problem uploading unmodified files

Hi Jo

This would be easiest to check using Windows Explorer.

Right-click on the file, select Properties, under Attributes check to see if the Read-only is ticked.

Kind regards
Amanda

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
