How do I safely swap data from say rows 1 and 2.

There can be several ways.

Highlight and cut the row you want, then right click and INSERT CUT CELLS into the row you want it to end up in.

Excel tip:

Highlighting only Text cells

To select onlt text value cells in a spreadsheet, click on Edit-Go to(F5)

In the Go To dialog box, click Special.
In the Go To Special dialog box, select Constants.
Click OK.
