Numbered lists

When I do a numbered list for some reason when the text goes onto a second line the text is more indented than the first line. I would like the lines to be aligned so that each numbered entry is like a little paragraph.

Also when I get to the end of the numbered list and try to continue with normal text the alignment stays where the numbers are which is slightly indented to where the text above the numbered section is.

I assume this is a formatting error but I cannot find how to change it apart from manually adjusting the ruler each time.

RE: Numbered lists

Hello Nicola

Thank you for your question.

I would like to check if you are using multi-level numbering (e.g. 1, 1.1, 1.2 etc), before answering your question - if you could reply and let me know.

Thanks.

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: Numbered lists

It's not adding another number its just indenting words that are part of the same sentence but that go onto the next line - they are all part of the same numbered point and we have not pressed return to go onto the next line.

RE: Numbered lists

Hi Nicola

Thanks for clarifying, that makes more sense now.

You should be able to adjust the position that the text starts on from the second line onwards in the numbered list.

Try selecting the numbered list, right-click and select Bullets and Numbering.

On the Numbered tab, click the Customise button.

Check that the following settings are in place.

Number position is left, at 0cm or 0.63cm
Tab space after is set to 0.63cm (if Number position is 0cm) or 1.27cm (if Number position is 0.63cm)
Indent at is set to the same measurement as Tab space after.

Click OK once you have made changes to the above settings.

When you have finished your numbered list, press Backspace to move the indent from the first paragraph without numbering.

I hope this helps - please do let me know if you're still having problems.

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: Numbered lists

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for your help but I can't see a bullets and numbering button, there is either bullets or numbering. When you go to the arrow beside numbering there is another list that lists a few formats, change list level, define new number format or set numbering value.

I can't see where the tab you are taking about is.

RE: Numbered lists

Hi Nicola

Sorry about that, try selecting your numbered list, right-click and select Adjust List Indents.

It should have the Number position and Text position options that you can work with.

Hope this helps.
Amanda
