Layout

Is there a way to create a layout that can be used as a template for others to use?

RE: layout

Hello Sian

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

If you are referring to being able to make a new slide layout in addition to the ones that come with PowerPoint (e.g. Title layout, Title and Text layout etc), you don't have the ability to do this in PowerPoint 2003 but it is possible in PowerPoint 2007.

If this isn't what you were asking, please explain in a little more detail and I'll respond again.

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: layout

Many thanks for your answer Amanda.
That is kind of what I meant, but more specifcally I wanted to know if I could edit the layouts that exist within powerpoint rather than create a new layout.

Many thanks

Sian

RE: layout

Hi Sian

Thanks for clarifying.

The only way I'm aware of that you can edit the existing layouts is just on individual slides when you insert them, by resizing or deleting slide placeholders to customise the layout.

Once you've done this, you could save the presentation as a template file (.pot) file if you wanted to have that particular layout available to use again, however you wouldn't be able to apply it like you can the built-in layouts.

I don't know if this helps you with what you would like to be able to achieve.

Kind regards
Amanda

Powerpoint tip:

Capture Screenshots in Powerpoint 2010

A great new feature to Powerpoint 2010 is the "screen clipping" command. This allows you to capture an image on your screen directly via powerpoint.

Go to your insert tab on the ribbon and in the images box you will see "sreenshot", click on the arrow and select "screen clipping". Powerpoint will minimise and you will be taken to the next open application or your desktop. Wait a few seconds a your screen will grey out a little and your mouse curser will turn into a + sign. Hold your mouse down and select the area you wish to capture. When you let go of your mouse the selected area will be exported into your powerpoint presentation as an image which you can edit.

It really simple and very effective, give it a go!

This feature is also available on Excel and Word.
