Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.
The IF function can be a bit tricky to understand to start off with. I've included a link below to a short video tutorial on the internet, with a slightly different example to the one we looked at on the course yesterday - you will need have sound on the computer in order to hear the guy in the tutorial explaining how the function works:

Also there are lots of tutorials on YouTube, if you search for excel if function or excel if statements.
