Hi Linda, thanks for your query. Create an action button by selecting it from the Autoshapes collection and drawing it onto the slide. When the action settings dialog box appears, select Action on Click - Run Program and Browse. When the "Select a program to run" dialog box appears, change "Files of type" drop down to "All files" and navigate to where your external document is saved. Then simply select it, OK the action settings and in slideshow view try out the action button!Hope this helps,
