Taking data from access and dumping it into MS MapPoint

I have made a Form in Access which holds a list of business locations by address.
I want to find out if there is a way of getting all of this address data from Access and dumping it into MS MapPoint so I can see the data spatially?
I know you can get data from Excel to Map Point, but can't find the way to do it direct from Access?
Is there a way this can be done and if so, what is the process to do this?

Many thanks
Lisa Hadaway

RE: Taking data from access and dumping it into MS MapPoint

Hi Lisa

Thanks for your post. The short answer is yes you can get your data from Access to be displayed in MapPoint, in fact it is possible to actually have a MapPoint graphic displayed within Access.

How do you do it? You do need to have some knowledge of writing macros and underlying VBA experience. We may be able to assist in a consultative fashion by viewing a sample of your files from both Access and MapPoint and creating a working solution.

This will involve some development time but we will let you know up front what the cost will be so you can decide whether to proceed.

Regards

Jacob

RE: Taking data from access and dumping it into MS MapPoint

Hi Jacob,

Thank you for your response.
In the team in which I work we have experience of writing macros and some VBA knowledge. Is there any way you could give me the run down of how to do this and I can take it back to my team and we can replicate it?

Kind regards
Lisa

RE: Taking data from access and dumping it into MS MapPoint

Hi Lisa

Sorry this reponse slipped between the boards, sorry for the delay!

I'm afraid that we would only approach this in a more formal consultative way, and not able to provide an informal work around.

I would advise you have a search around on google, but be careful what you try it is at your own risk!

Regards

Jacob

Access tip:

Choosing data types in Access

Not sure which data type to use for your Access fields? Here are some guidelines to help you choose a data type to assign to a field.

- The Text data type can accept up to 255 characters. For information that will be recorded in paragraphs, use Memo.

- Also use Text for numbers that aren't going to be used in calculations, e.g. phone numbers.

- Use the Currency data type for monetary amounts.

- Use Date/Time for dates.

- Most other numbers can use the Number data type, but the Field Size property may have to be altered.

- For fields that have only two alternatives (yes, no) use Yes/No data type. If there is likely to be a third entry option (e.g. maybe or don't know) use Text instead.
