Creating artwork in Word

Hi - it would be easiest if I could send you an attachment o demonstrate my problem, but I don't think I can do this using the forum... I am creating our company's Xmas card using Word 2007, but have stumbled across a problem. For some reason I am unable to 'group' one part of the picture with all of the other parts, which makes it impossible to 'copy' the whole image and paste it into emails for our Xmas e-cards. Please could you reply with an email address that I could send my word document to, and then maybe take a look at that? Many thanks in advance! Jessica

RE: Creating artwork in Word

Hello Jessica

Thank you for sending your file through.

I think the problem is this:

Because the text is in a text box, the text doesn't automatically resize as the text box is made smaller or bigger. You can still adjust the font size once you have resized the group without having to ungroup everything, as you will be able to select the text box from within the group.

Alternatively, try the following - it's a bit of a botch-job way of making the text box do what you want but it works ok. Copy and paste the text box into PowerPoint. Right-click on the edge of the text box and select Save Picture as. Save the text box as a .png file. Insert the .png file into the Word document (from Insert tab). Delete the existing text box (or move it out of the way in case the following doesn't work!) Wrap the picture (e.g. square wrapping) so that you can position the text box where you want it to go. Then regroup. Now that the text box is an image, the font should resize when the group is resized.

Kind regards
Amanda

Word tip:

Selective highlighting...

Selecting in word has improved with CTRL being added in XP for individual ranges, like in excel. If you want to select a range such as an column which has been created using tabs you could use the CTRL key and select one word at a time, but if you hold down the ALT key and then click and drag your mouse it will select wherever you drag to. This will only allow you to do 1 change though.

forum postI can select a whole current region by using activecell.currentregion.select.

But how can I select only one of the columns or rows of the current region?
