Excel - Cell Formatting

Hi,

I want a cell to automatically be formatted in a certain colour when certain text is inserted, how do i do this. For example:

If the text entered into a particular cell is:

- Complete - then format the cell the colour green
- On Track - light green.
- Overdue - then format the cell the colour red
- At risk - then format the cell the colour amber

I've tried using Conditional Format which does if for the existing content. However, when i change the text i'd like the colour to automatically change as above

RE: Excel - Cell Formatting

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your question.

Select the column and go to Format and then Conditional Formatting.

Add the first condition which would be:

Cell Value is equal to Complete and then click format to choose. Repeat this for a maximum of three conditions.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

RE: Excel - Cell Formatting

Hi Simon,

Thanks for this, however, as my earlier note suggested i'd got this far in terms of using Conditional Formatting.

The problem i have is that it does automatically update if i change the status or text within the cell.

i.e. From At Risk (Amber) to Complete (Green).

I'm looking for the cell colour to automatically change when i change the text.

Please can you advise on this as soon as possible, as it is for a report that i am producing today.

RE: Excel - Cell Formatting

Hi Jeff

Simon is training at a client's premises today, and is unlikely to be able to answer the post until this evening. Perhaps I can help.

The problem you outline is puzzling because the data should automatically update. Off hand I can think of no reasons why it shouldn't

Can you email me a copy of the workbook and I'll see if I can fix the problem

My email is sw

Stephen

RE: Excel - Cell Formatting

Hi Jeff

When I opened the file it contained no conditional formatting.

When I applied the conditional formatting you described it works fine. I have attached the amended file to an email.

If you click on Formatting-Conditional Formatting you will be able to see the rules and apply them to your main document
