Marie has attended:
Project Intro Intermediate course

Start Date + Duration <> End Date

I have a task that I have fixed the end date of and I have fixed the duration at 10 days. I want Project to tell me when I need to start the task. I have a calendar with 7 day working. However, Project tells me that I need to start it 14 days before the end date. It recognises that the duration is 10 days, so why does it not set the start date as 10 days before the end date?? Any ideas what I might be doing wrong or what I might have set elsewheer that leads to this?

RE: Start Date + Duration <> End Date

Hi Marie

Thank you for your question. One way to check what's affecting your task is to click on it then from the toolbar choose Task Drivers button (which has an icon with a blue bar, a link arrow and a question mark and exists in version 2007). This will open a panel and list what is impacting on your task.

You might alslo like to check what kind of constraint is applied to your task. Check by double clicking the task and in Advanced taking a look at Constraint type. Is it set to finish no later than the date in question?

Is a resource assigned to the task yet and if so what calendar to they follow (7 days or 5 days for example)?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Andrew

RE: Start Date + Duration <> End Date

Doh!
The reources were set with the wrong calendar, so threw out all the (supposedly) dependent relationships.

All sorted now, thanks to your answer. Cheers!
