Hi,

I have a spreadsheet relating to students behaviour for the whole school. I would like to show duplicate incidents as staff think they have doubled up and want to delete the duplicates.

I have tried Conditional Formating - Highlight duplicates, but this isn't very helpful, it either highlights the whole sheet, or nothing at all.

the columns are: student name, registration group, incident type, date, staff member involved.

does anyone have any ideas of what is the best way to show duplicates.

Hi Lorna,

Thank you for your question.

Have you tried the Remove Duplicates option in Excel 2007?

If not go to the Data tab, Data Tools group and select the Remove Duplicates option. Tick the boxes that may contain duplication, click OK and this will automatically delete any duplicates.

Excel tip:

Use the Format Painter to copy formatting more than once in Excel

The format painter tool provides a quick and easy way to copy formatting from one cell to another in Word.

The only problem is that if you click the Format Painter once to turn it on, you can only click and drag over a single cell or adjacent range of cells; then the Format Painter turns itself off automatically.

If you want to copy formatting to cells or groups of cells that are not adjacent to each other, double-click the Format Painter - this way you will be able to copy formatting to multiple cells.

When you have finished using Format Painter, press the Esc key or click on the Format Painter button once to turn it off.
