Word documents - table

I have a document which includes a table of 2 columns with numbers in. Each has four lines with the fourth being a total . The totals need to have a single line at the top of the number & a double underline on the bottom. I have done this on the right hand column but have not been able to copy the borders over to the left hand column as there is a zero in that column iinstead of a 4 digit number

How do I do this please

Thanks

RE: Word documents - table

Hi Jill, thanks for your query. There is a difference between formatting the borders of the cell the numbers are in, and applying borders to the paragraph formed the numbers. When you say "The totals need to have a single line at the top of the number & a double underline on the bottom", are you selecting the text and then applying the borders or are you trying to format the cell borders themelves? Let me know and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

RE: Word documents - table

Hi Jill, thanks for your query. Make sure you bring up the full Borders and Shading dialog box using the dialog box launcher and select the text you're interested in. Apply the borders but beware that you might need to apply the borders to either text or paragraph using the drop down at the bottom right hand side and apply, clear and reapply the borders in the preview pane to get the desired effect. The tool is notoriously eccentric so it is worth playing with to get it right.

Hope this helps,

Anthony

Word tip:

Remove 'Getting Started' Pane

When you start Microsoft Word 2003 a "Getting Started" pane appears to the right of the new document window.

It contains several options such as "Connect to Microsoft Office Online", "Get the latest news about using Word" and a list of your most recently accessed documents. Though useful to some, others may find it annoying.

The following steps allow you to remove the "Getting Started" pane.

1. Choose Tools then Options

2. In the Options dialog box select the View tab

3. Uncheck Startup Task Pane

4. Click OK to close the dialog box.
