Being able to use the data base

Having problems using the database when my colleague is up-dating and designing the database is this normal?

For upcoming training course dates see: Pricing & availability

RE: Being able to use the data base

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

If the database is on a shared drive, if your colleague is in Design View of a table changing data types or field sizes, you will only be able to open the table in design mode in read only.

You can however still run the queries, add data via the forms or print reports.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

RE: Being able to use the data base

Hi Jackie,

Just to add a little extra to the last reply...

If your colleague has a form or table open in Design view you may not be able to open the database until they have finished their changes in Design view.

When you open a database you can open it in exclusive mode which means no-one else will be able to open it until they have finished.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Simon
