Comparing Baselines

How am I able to compare my saved baselines in a Gantt chart view?

For upcoming training course dates see: Pricing & availability

RE: Comparing Baselines

Hi Caroline

Thank you for your question. After opening your plan take a look at View > More Views and from the list select Multiple Baselines Gantt By default this view shows you Baseline, Baseline1 and Baseline2

If you would like to see other baselines go to Format > Bar Styles and swap out the baseline starts/finishes for the fields that you require.

I hope this helps - do let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Comparing Baselines

That only shows me a comparison of each sub-heading, not individual tasks. Is it possible to see a comparison of individual tasks?

RE: Comparing Baselines

Hi Caroline

Thank you for cominig back to me. Multiple baselines gantt view shows the baselines for summary tasks and individual tasks.

Check to see that the sub tasks are fully displayed by clicking on the show button and selecting All Subtasks.

If you would rather not have the summary tasks displayed go to Tools > Options > View and de-select Show summary tasks.

Let me know how you get on.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Comparing Baselines

It is still only showing the baseline comparisons for the summary tasks and not the individual tasks as required... any ideas?

RE: Comparing Baselines

Hi Caroline

Take a look at the Tracking Gantt view (View > Tracking Gantt). Do you have the same problem in this view too or does each task have a baseline? In this view the live plan is show in blue and/or red. The baseline is drawn below the live plan in grey.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Comparing Baselines

No - that view only shows the baseline below the summary tasks and not individual tasks also...

Does it make a difference that I am trying to do this in a 'Master Project' with about 4 or 5 individual projects pulled through?

RE: Comparing Baselines

Hi Caroline,

Yes that does make a difference.

Set the baseline on each individual projects to see them displayed in the combined view.

Kind regards

Andrew

Ms project tip:

Link tasks using predecessor column - project

a. First, note ID number of the task you want to link to (predecessor). Then, in the predecessor column of the task you want to link to (successor), type the predecessor task's ID number.
b. The link will be a Finish to Start (the default type).
c. Or you can add in a code for a different relationship type
i. SS = Start to Start
ii. FF = Finish to Finish
iii. SF = Start to Finish
d. You don't have to type the task ID numbers in any specific order, but you must separate multiple tasks with commas.
