RE: controlling multiple projects

Hi Robert

There are two approaches to controlling multiple projects.

You can either insert projects into an empty project file (insert > project...) and select the projects files you would like to combine. Bear in mind though that the resulting master project file is showing you the original data from each inserted file. So that means that if you made changes and saved them in the master project then the source inserted project files are also updated.

Or you can create a resource pool. Connect your project plans to the resource pool to track assignment and over-allocation across multiple projects. Opening the resource pool prompts you to also open and create a master project file containing each file currently sharing resources from the resource pool. In this master project you can use the mouse to click and drag links between the inserted project task bars.

Once links are in place you can double click on them to choose the type of dependency that suits your project.

Hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,

Andrew

Ms project tip:

Formatting Bar Text

To display notes or resource initials on the Gantt chart bars, choose Format, Bar Styles and the Text tab. Select the position you want to show the text i.e. Top or Inside etc, then choose the field name you are looking for from the drop down arrow. Type the first letter of the name to get quickly to the top of the letter range. Click OK.
